The United States of America was examined under the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review mechanism during the 9th session of the UPR Working Group on 1-12 November 2010.

Special Procedures

The UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, Ms. Rashida Manjoo, visited the United States from 24 January to 7 February 2011.

The UN Special Rapporteur on adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living, and on the right to non-discrimination in this context conducted a mission in the United States from 25 October to 1 November 2010.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography, Ms. Najat Maalla M’jid, visited the United States from 14 to 27 October 2010.

The UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent visited the United States from 25 to 29 January 2010.


Other Information

On 12 May 2009 the United Nations General Assembly elected the United States to a three-year term on the UN Human Rights Council.
