Rwanda was examined under the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review mechanism during the 10th session of the UPR Working Group on 24 January-4 February 2011.

Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

Rwanda will be examined by a Pre-Sessional Working Group of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) - which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights - during the period 3-7 December 2012 in Geneva. This is in preparation of a full examination to be conducted by the CESCR at a future session.

NGOs - including churches and related organizations - can submit written information in the form of a "parallel" report concerning the status of implementation of economic, social and cultural rights in Germany. NGOs should deliver 25 copies of their report and summary to the secretariat a week prior to the session for distribution to Committee members. Where possible, it is useful to submit a summary of the report in all the working languages of the Committee. Communication regarding submissions to the Committee may be addressed to gro.rhcho|rcsec#gro.rhcho|rcsec.

Committee Against Torture

Rwanda will be examined by the UN Committee Against Torture (CAT) - which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment - at its 48th session, 7 May to 1 June 2012.

Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Rwanda was examined by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination - which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination - at its 78th session, 14 February - 11 March 2011, in Geneva.

Human Rights Committee (civil and political rights)

Rwanda was examined by the UN Human Rights Committee (HRC) - which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of civil and political rights as defined in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights - at its 95th session, 16 March-3 April 2009.


Special Procedures

The UN Independent Expert on minority issues, Ms. Gay McDougall, visited Rwanda from 31 January to 7 February 2011.
