Universal Periodic Review

India will be examined under the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review mechanism (Second Cycle) during the 13th session of the UPR Working Group on 21 May - 4 June 2012 in Geneva.

India was examined during the Ist session (7-18 April 2008) of the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review mechanism.

Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women

India was examined by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) - which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women - at its 47th session, 4 - 22 October 2010, in Geneva.


Special Procedures

The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Margaret Sekaggya, visited India for her first fact-finding mission from 10 to 21 January 2011.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the adverse effects of the movement and dumping of toxic and dangerous products and wastes on the enjoyment of human rights visited India on 11 - 21 January 2010.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights undertook a visit to Nepal and India on 18-23 March 2009.
