Universal Periodic Review

Haiti was scheduled to be examined under the Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review mechanism during the 8th session of the UPR Working Group on 3-14 May 2010. However, the examination was postponed due to the catastrophic earthquake on 12 January 2010, and took place during the 12th session of the UPR Working Group on 3-14 October 2011 in Geneva.

The UN Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Haiti, Michel Forst, visited Haiti from 20 to 27 February 2011.

The UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons, Walter Kaelin, visited Haiti from 12 to 17 October 2010.

The Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Haiti (Mr Michel Forst of France) is mandated by the UN Human Rights Council to furnish assistance to the Government of Haiti in the area of human rights, to examine the development of the situation of human rights in Haiti and to monitor the fulfilment by Haiti of its obligations in this field.
