Committee on the Rights of the Child

Burundi was examined by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) - which is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child - at its 55th session, 13 September - 1 October 2010 in Geneva.


Special Procedures

The UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent visited Portugal from 16-20 May 2011.

The Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Burundi (Mr Akich Okola of Kenya) has been mandated by the UN Human Rights Council to assist the Government of Burundi in its efforts to improve the human rights situation, focusing on the building of national capacities in this area through, inter alia, the establishment of the national human rights commission, and the establishment of transitional justice mechanisms in collaboration with the United Nations.
